Dawn’s Revenge
Dawn’s Revenge is a thriller set in the New Orleans French Quarter. Jack Chandler, a not too successful lawyer who takes every case that comes in the door, learns that his housekeeper’s beautiful teenage daughter is brutally raped and murdered. He discovers a conspiracy between the New Orleans’ sheriff and New Orleans Mental Health, and he becomes a target. While the subject is dark, the characters, including Nookie Naquin, a Cajun from “down de bayou,” will lighten it up. There is a thread of bi-racial romance and an underlying voodoo theme. There is a wonderful chase during the biggest hurricane ever to hit New Orleans—and written a decade before Katrina but predicted it precisely. Read some of the kudos of readers and get a sense of this exciting book which was edited by Bill Thompson, Grisham’s first editor, who said it should be a screenplay—and that I was better than Grisham. If I am so smart why ain’t I rich? Well, I ain’t through yet.
